Rochdale Canal Cycle Route

The first canal to be built across the Pennines, the Rochdale Canal played a pivotal part in Britain’s Industrial Revolution and is steeped in rich, northern history. A quick train from our hotel in Didsbury will take you directly into Manchester Piccadilly station where you can hop onto the canal route from Store Street, which runs below the station itself. The canal route is lined with gorgeous green space and will offer an afternoon of clean air and lots of places of interest to discover along the way, including Victoria Mill, Central Park and New Islington.

Manchester Cycleway, South and East

If you are looking for something a little gentler, why not take an off-road cycle route instead? This cycle path follows the abandoned Fallowfield Railway Line, known as the Fallowfield Loop, which runs from Chorlton in West Manchester, through Fallowfield and Levenshulme, up through Gorton and East Manchester to the Velodrome and Sportcity. With lots of greenery en route, you’ll almost forget you’re just a stone’s throw from one of the most bustling cities in the north. You can also use this cycle route to reach events at Sportcity for a much greener way to travel!
