Spending Mother’s Day in Manchester?

We bring you the best value things to do if you are celebrating Mother’s Day on a budget this year

On Sunday 26th March, we get the chance to celebrate the most important women in our lives. To treat our mums to something special and say a proper thank you for everything she’s done over the years. If you’re spending Mother’s Day in Manchester this year and don’t have as much cash in your pocket as you would have hoped, read our top ways to treat mum in the Rainy City on a budget and make it an affordable and exciting celebration to remember.

Wonder Women Festival 2017

Although the festival is a little earlier than Mother’s Day (running between 2nd – 12th March), it is a celebration you won’t want to miss out on. Wonder Women Festival is one stop on the countdown to next year’s 100-year anniversary celebration of when women won the (partial) right to vote. There will be talks, theatre, workshops, women’s groups and exhibitions to enjoy, so what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with an empowered tribute to womankind with the most important woman in your life right by your side?

Lunch at the Waterside Hotel

If you are looking for something a little more traditional, how about booking yourself in for a scrumptious lunch at our Didsbury restaurant? Serving up pork and pea shoot salads as well as a range of delicious desserts, we think some quality time and a slap up meal with mum could be just what you both need. Alternatively, for the more adventurous mums who like to get stuck in, why not cook up a storm under the watchful eye of industry experts at our onsite Food Sorcery school instead?

Explore the City

Manchester is a haven of amazing galleries, museums and music venues, so simply walk the streets and mooch through corridors of culture this Mother’s Day. Our favourite spots include, Chetham’s and Portico public libraries for the book worms; the Museum of Science and Industry or Manchester Museum for the historians and Whitworth and Manchester Galleries for the culture vultures. These are all completely free to enter, although you might have to pay a small fee for some temporary exhibitions.

BFI Mediatheque

Film fanatics are always grateful for a surprise trip to the cinema, but why not make it a little more interesting – and inexpensive – with a trip to Manchester’s very own BFI Mediatheque at Central Library? With free film screenings and events running throughout spring, this could be the perfect choice for Mother’s Day.

Whether your mum would prefer to relax in our superb spa in Didsbury or wander the halls of some of Manchester’s finest art galleries, there is plenty to do in this city, at a very affordable price.
